The successful daylighting of diversion tunnel-3 (DT-3) in Arunachal Pradesh’s 2,880 MW Dibang Multipurpose Project marked a major construction milestone and continued advancement in one of India’s biggest hydropower projects. The tunnel’s excavation work was completed when NHPC Director (Projects) Sanjay Kumar Singh pressed the control button to symbolically start the last blast, marking the breakthrough, in front of NHPC Executive Director and Head of Project Narender Kumar, Executive Director (Project Monitoring & Support Group) Umesh Kumar Nand, and other NHPC and L&T officials.
The accomplishment, according to NHPC officials here on Wednesday, was a significant step in moving construction forward and guaranteeing the project’s river diversion operations proceeded smoothly. Such milestones will help maintain the speed of construction and reach impending project targets, senior authorities said, praising the coordinated efforts of engineers, laborers, and contractors involved in the difficult undertaking. An essential stage in the project’s overall execution plan is the daylighting of DT-3. Singh commended the employees, engineers, and all parties involved for their hard work in reaching the goal.
In order to achieve the remaining milestones and guarantee the project’s timely completion, he expressed hope that the teams of NHPC and its associate contractors will keep collaborating closely. With 12 units of 240 MW each, NHPC is building the Dibang Multipurpose Project on the Dibang River in the Lower Dibang Valley district of Arunachal Pradesh. The project will have an installed capacity of 2,880 MW. Upon completion, the project is anticipated to produce more than 11,000 million units of energy per year and function as a significant flood control and water storage project in the area.
