Arunachal receives additional central support, focus on tribal welfare and development

Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram on Thursday informed Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) K T Parnaik about additional assistance extended to the state beyond the regular allocations under central schemes. The announcement was made during a meeting at Raj Bhawan, highlighting the government’s commitment to addressing the state’s unique developmental needs. Oram emphasized that central assistance for Arunachal Pradesh is being facilitated by 17 ministries, including housing, health, education, telecommunication, and sports. He noted that this multi-ministerial support underscores the government’s dedication to fostering holistic growth in the state. Governor Parnaik, while expressing gratitude for the support, stressed the need for a targeted approach to achieve integrated socio-economic development. He highlighted critical gaps in sectors such as education, health, agriculture, and skill development, advocating for additional special central assistance to bridge these disparities.

One of the key discussions centered on the establishment of more Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) to provide quality education in remote areas. “These schools will empower students with the foundation for higher education and professional careers, creating pathways to diverse opportunities,” Parnaik said. The governor also proposed the creation of a center of excellence for sports in Arunachal Pradesh, equipped with advanced facilities and scientific training to nurture the state’s young talent. He highlighted the achievements of tribal youth in sports and expressed optimism about their potential to bring national and international recognition.

Additionally, Parnaik advocated for enhanced livelihood opportunities for tribal artisans in the northeastern region. He emphasized improving the efficiency of procurement, logistics, and marketing of tribal products to promote entrepreneurship and economic independence. Minister Oram appreciated the governor’s recommendations and assured him of continued support to address the state’s needs. “The central government remains committed to the holistic development of Arunachal Pradesh and its tribal communities,” Oram said.
