In a press briefing regarding the upcoming elections in Arunachal Pradesh, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Pawan Kumar Sain issued a stern warning to habitual offenders, stating that 2,864 individuals with a history of creating law and order problems during polls have been bound down by the state election machinery. “Any violation of the law will be met with strict action in accordance with Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines,” emphasized Sain, revealing that the election machinery has confiscated 936 illegal firearms while also collecting 24,999 licensed firearms to date.
Sain urged individuals who have yet to deposit their firearms to do so within the next four days to avoid facing severe consequences. As Arunachal Pradesh gears up for simultaneous polls for two Lok Sabha and 50 Assembly constituencies in the first phase on April 19, CEO Sain called upon all eligible voters to exercise their adult franchise rights by casting their votes.
Highlighting the proactive measures taken by the election machinery, Sain disclosed that cash and items worth more than 15 crores have been seized by flying squads. Additionally, he announced the deployment of ten paramilitary force companies to sensitive districts with vulnerable polling stations to preempt any potential violence during the elections.
