New Delhi: Now a network of roads is being laid in India. Many expressways have been built in the country, work on some is going on and many expressways are proposed.
An expressway will also be built from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh to Siliguri in West Bengal. Land acquisition work has started for the Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway passing through three states. With the construction of this greenfield expressway being built parallel to the India-Nepal border under the Bharatmala project, the distance between Gorakhpur and Siliguri will be reduced to only 519 kilometers.
At present there is no direct road from Gorakhpur to Siliguri. It currently takes 15 hours to cover the distance between the two cities. With the construction of Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway, this time will reduce to only nine hours. That means, if a person leaves for Siliguri by car at 6 in the morning, he will reach his destination at 2 in the afternoon.
