Van Mahotsav celebrated in Itanagar with ‘Ek Paudha Maa ke Naam’ theme

Van Mahotsav was celebrated with enthusiasm at the Botanical Survey of India, Arunachal Pradesh Regional Centre, where Tamme Phassang, Mayor of Itanagar Municipal Corporation, graced the event as Chief Guest. The plantation drive, themed “Ek Paudha Maa ke Naam,” aimed to promote environmental conservation through tree planting initiatives. Mayor Tamme Phassang commended the Botanical Survey of India for organizing the event with a focus on nurturing saplings akin to how a mother cares for her child. He emphasized the importance of tree planting in maintaining ecological balance and fostering a sustainable environment.

Dr. Krishna Chowlu, Scientist at BSI, highlighted the significance of Van Mahotsav, an annual celebration in the first week of July, dedicated to promoting sustainability and ecological harmony. He mentioned Arunachal Pradesh’s rich biodiversity, with over 5000 plant species, and BSI’s efforts in their study, preservation, and documentation.

Dr. K Altaf Ahmed Kabeer, Scientist E, underscored Van Mahotsav’s role in inspiring community participation in forest conservation and environmental protection efforts. He stressed the importance of raising awareness about the ecological benefits of forests and the need for collective action in their preservation.
