Arunachal Pradesh Governor K. T. Parnaik has called for the immediate restoration of normalcy at the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) and warned that those responsible for recent disturbances on the campus would face action in accordance with the law. The Governor made the remarks during a meeting with NERIST Director Prof. Narendranath S at Raj Bhavan on Monday. According to an official statement, the meeting focused on the recent developments at the institute and measures being taken to restore academic activities and ensure the welfare of students and faculty members.
Parnaik, who is also the President of the NERIST Society, expressed concern over the unrest and stressed the need to prevent such incidents from recurring. He said maintaining peace, discipline and a conducive academic environment was essential for the growth and reputation of the institution. Describing NERIST as one of the premier technical and higher education institutions in the Northeast, the Governor said disruptions to the academic atmosphere directly affect the aspirations and future prospects of students. He reiterated that the state government has assured a thorough inquiry into the incident and that all individuals found responsible would be dealt with as per the law. The Governor emphasised that accountability, discipline and respect for institutional values are necessary to maintain harmony within educational institutions. He also appealed to students, faculty members and other stakeholders to exercise restraint and work collectively towards restoring stability on the campus.
Expressing confidence in the institution’s resilience, Parnaik said NERIST’s administration, faculty and students would work together to uphold its long-standing tradition of academic excellence and inclusivity. NERIST, a deemed university located near Itanagar, has witnessed unrest in recent weeks amid controversies linked to administrative and recruitment-related issues. The situation escalated following the resignation of Director Prof. Narendranath S amid an ongoing dispute over recruitment matters and disciplinary actions involving certain officials.
