Amid conflicting reports of alleged Chinese intrusion in the Taksing and Limeking circles of Arunachal Pradesh’s Upper Subansiri district, local accounts and ground assessments suggest that the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has encroached into Indian territory.
The latest incident was reported at Pukarla, where PLA personnel allegedly camped inside Indian territory from 10 July. Local leaders claim that sacred sites such as Portang Lake and yak-grazing lands have been taken over. Villagers say they can no longer access traditional grazing grounds, and the fate of their yaks remains uncertain.
However, locals also stress that the situation is not one-sided. After villagers raised the alarm, the Indian Army mobilised quickly, securing advantageous positions in Shera 3 and Asaphila, and checkmating PLA movements. Villagers, including men, women, and even government servants, are volunteering as porters to support the Army.
Community leaders expressed dismay at political statements denying Chinese encroachment, calling them hurtful. They urged the government to consolidate positions with permanent structures and improve road and internet connectivity in frontier circles.
Local leaders such as Head Gaon Buri Kiochi Chader warned that if Taksing falls, the security of the entire Arunachal Pradesh would be at risk. Meanwhile, the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), led by president Bosiram Siram, visited Taksing to assess the situation. Siram emphasised that “Taksing is not a distant corner of India, it is the frontline of India,” urging stronger infrastructure, uninterrupted supplies, and creation of an Arunachal Regiment with recruitment of indigenous youth.
The APCC delegation interacted with villagers and security personnel, stressing that frontier communities must be accorded the highest priority. Reports also suggest PLA troops are facing logistical shortages in some sectors.
