Fresh landslides amid rain in tawang; mla inspects affected area

Tawang MLA Namgey Tsering on Thursday inspected the landslide-affected area near Sakarjong on Thursday to assess the prevailing situation.
During the inspection by a team led by the MLA, it was observed that fresh landslides have occurred over the past two days, further increasing concern amid continuous rainfall in the upper reaches of Tawang township.
Owing to heavy fog and persistent rain, the entire affected stretch could not be clearly viewed from the source.
The team also observed that a large portion of land very close to the main road leading towards PTSO remains vulnerable, requiring continued caution and monitoring.
In view of the continuing rainfall and unstable slopes, villagers, labourers and all residents staying in downstream and landslide-prone areas are once again strongly advised to remain alert and vigilant, particularly during heavy or continuous rainfall.
The district administration has urged the residents to avoid approaching unnecessarily landslide-prone slopes, streams and vulnerable areas; watch for unusual movement of soil, debris or sudden changes in water flow and immediately inform the concerned authorities if any fresh landslide, blockage or unusual situation is noticed.
