Nvidia’s New ‘robot brain’ Goes On Sale

Nvidia has announced that its latest robotics chip module, the Jetson AGX Thor, is now available for purchase at $3,499 as a developer kit. Shipping will begin next month, allowing companies to prototype their robots. Once ready for production, firms can buy the Thor T5000 modules, with bulk pricing of $2,999 per unit for orders over 1,000 units.

CEO Jensen Huang has identified robotics as Nvidia’s biggest growth area outside of AI, which has significantly boosted the company’s revenues in recent years. Deepu Talla, VP of Robotics and Edge AI, emphasized that Nvidia doesn’t make robots or cars but powers the ecosystem with advanced computing hardware and software.

The Jetson Thor chips are built on Nvidia’s latest Blackwell architecture and are 7.5 times faster than the previous generation. With 128GB of memory, they can run large generative AI models crucial for humanoid robots and autonomous machines. Companies like Agility Robotics, Amazon, Meta, and Boston Dynamics already use Jetson chips. Although robotics currently makes up only 1% of Nvidia’s revenue, it is growing rapidly, with the combined automotive and robotics division reporting $567 million in May quarter sales—a 72% annual increase.
