Arunachal Pradesh took a significant step forward in positioning itself as a mineral-rich state with vast untapped opportunities by hosting a workshop on “Mineral Potential in Arunachal Pradesh: A Way Forward.” The event was jointly organised by the Geological Survey of India (GSI), State Unit Arunachal Pradesh, and the Department of Geology and Mining (DGM), Government of Arunachal Pradesh, on Wednesday. The initiative comes close on the heels of the 2nd North East Mining Minister’s Conclave held in Guwahati in June, reflecting the Centre’s growing focus on harnessing the mineral wealth of the Northeast while ensuring sustainable development.
The workshop began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Rajeeva Roy, Deputy Director General, GSI Arunachal Pradesh, and Pee Lee Ete, IFS, DIGF (Central), MoEF&CC, Guwahati, in the presence of senior officials from both GSI and DGM. Conducted in a hybrid format from the GSI conference hall, the event saw enthusiastic participation from representatives of central and state departments, technical experts, and Notified Private Exploration Agencies (NPEAs). During the technical sessions, specialists made presentations on the geology and mineral resources of Arunachal Pradesh, highlighting the potential for exploration in key sectors. Officials also briefed participants about the National Geodata Repository (NGDR) portal, a digital platform designed to make mineral data easily accessible, and the opportunities available under the National Mineral Exploration Trust (NMET) for funding exploration projects.
The interactive discussions proved to be a crucial platform for stakeholders, who raised queries on practical challenges, policy frameworks, and investment opportunities. Organisers emphasised the importance of collaboration between government agencies, private explorers, and local communities in realising the state’s mineral potential.
