Governor KT Parnaik, accompanied by MLA Tseten Chombay, visited the Sang-ngag Choekhor Dargyeling monastery, popularly known as Chilipam monastery, near Rupa in West Kameng district on Sunday and offered prayers at the sacred Buddhist shrine.
A special prayer ceremony was organised at the monastery for peace, prosperity, and the well-being of humanity. During the visit, Governor Parnaik appreciated the monastery’s significant role in preserving and promoting Buddhist traditions, spiritual values, and the cultural heritage of Arunachal Pradesh.
The Governor stated that monasteries like Chilipam are not only places of worship but also living institutions that nurture moral values, compassion, and ancient wisdom. He highlighted their contribution to promoting peace, harmony, tolerance, and mutual respect in society.
Recalling his experience of serving in Buddhist regions from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh and Bhutan, Governor Parnaik noted the important role of Buddhist institutions in strengthening social bonds and encouraging cultural understanding.
He also interacted with the abbot of the monastery, Rimpoche Trulku Tenzin Jigme, who briefed him on the institution’s efforts in providing spiritual education, preserving Buddhist teachings, and guiding youth towards discipline and ethical living. The Governor appreciated these initiatives and stressed the need for greater youth participation in safeguarding the state’s cultural legacy.
Located around 15 kilometres from Rupa, Chilipam Monastery is known for its unique architecture, sacred traditions, and scenic Himalayan surroundings. The monastery continues to attract devotees, scholars, and tourists while serving as a symbol of peace, spirituality, and Arunachal Pradesh’s rich Buddhist heritage.
