Entrepreneur Upasana Kamineni Konidela recently addressed students at IIT Hyderabad, emphasizing the importance of financial independence for women and describing egg freezing as the “biggest insurance” for women. In a video that went viral on social media, Konidela, married to Telugu actor Ram Charan, explained that being financially self-reliant enabled her to make key life decisions confidently.
“The biggest insurance for women is to save your eggs. It allows you to decide when to marry, when to have children, and ensures financial independence,” she said. Konidela, who is expecting her second child, shared that earning her own living has given her strength and confidence to take bold steps in life. She has previously discussed her own experience with egg freezing.
Her remarks sparked a debate on X, with opinions divided. Zoho founder and former CEO Sridhar Vembu disagreed, urging young entrepreneurs to marry and have children in their 20s, calling it a “demographic duty to society and one’s ancestors.” Upasana and Ram Charan recently celebrated their second child announcement with a Diwali baby shower, following the birth of their daughter Klin Kaara in 2023.
