India has achieved a historic milestone by hitting 100 Gigawatts (GW) of domestic Solar Photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturing capacity. This achievement comes under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) scheme, which promotes indigenous production and quality control in the renewable energy sector.
This massive scale-up in manufacturing capability is critical for achieving India’s ambitious renewable energy targets and securing its energy independence. The country now ranks 3rd globally in installed solar power capacity and 4th in wind power capacity.
The manufacturing surge supports the National Green Hydrogen Mission and initiatives like the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, signaling a strong move toward a localized, self-reliant green energy supply chain that reduces dependence on imports.
