The Upper Subansiri district administration has launched an airlift operation to deliver food grains and other essential supplies to remote villages cut off by monsoon-triggered damage in Arunachal Pradesh.
The initiative is aimed at ensuring uninterrupted supply of relief materials to residents of Nilling, Lingdam and Upper Giba circles, where road connectivity has been severely disrupted following incessant rainfall.
According to officials, breaches along the Nyo and Jao rivers washed away sections of roads and destroyed the bridge over the Jao River, leaving 22 villages in Upper Giba completely isolated from the district headquarters. Another 20 villages in Nilling circle have also remained inaccessible after roads were damaged by the floods.
With road transport rendered impossible, the district administration, under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner, sought helicopter support to transport food grains, medicines and other emergency supplies to the affected areas.
The proposal received backing from local MLA Taniya Soki, following which the Directorate of Civil Aviation approved the request and scheduled helicopter sorties for July 22 and 23.
The helicopters are ferrying rice and other essential commodities from Daporijo to Lingdam and Nilling to ensure timely relief reaches the stranded communities. Officials said the administration is closely monitoring the situation and will continue relief operations until normal connectivity is restored.
