Himanta Calls On Tripura Cm In Agartala; Says Nda Will Retain Power In Assam

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma called on his Tripura counterpart Manik Saha in Agartala and had a deliberation on Thursday. “We held meaningful discussions on a range of issues of mutual interest, reinforcing the spirit of cooperation and shared progress between our states,” Sarma said. Speaking to mediapersons later after taking blessings of Mata Tripura Sundari at Udaipur in Gomati district, Sarma expressed confidence that the NDA would retain power in the ensuing Assam Assembly elections. “The Assembly election dates will be announced in February this year and considering the impeccable work done by the BJP, I am confident that the party will come back to power with a thumping majority,” Sarma said.

He noted that if polls are conducted today, the result would definitely be in the favor of the BJP. However, he said politics is unpredictable, hence making any forecast about election results may be premature. Nonetheless, he asserted that BJP is in a very strong position at present in Assam. He further said that development and identity were the two issues on which the polls would be fought in Assam, adding that BJP has fulfilled all its promises in the previous manifesto. Sarma also expressed displeasure on the West Bengal government not acting tough against infiltration from Bangladesh in that state. “West Bengal government is not contributing to the national cause of acting against illegal infiltration from Bangladesh,” he said. “Assam and Tripura are taking swift action in arresting the infiltrators from Bangladesh, but the same is not witnessed from the West Bengal government,” the chief minister said.
