As the tricolor was unfurled amid ceremonial splendor in the state capital Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh joined the rest of the country in commemorating the 77th Republic Day with grandeur, patriotism, and a renewed commitment to constitutional values. The festivities officially began at Indira Gandhi Park in Itanagar when Governor Lieutenant General (Retd) K.T. Parnaik unfurled the National Flag. Following a spirited procession by police officers and IRBN jawans, which demonstrated discipline, solidarity, and service, there were lively cultural performances that highlighted the state’s rich and varied history.
Speaking to the crowd, Governor Parnaik greeted the people of Arunachal Pradesh with warmth and emphasized the importance of Republic Day as a time for national affirmation and shared pride. The governor stated, “This momentous occasion reminds us of our unwavering love and commitment to our motherland,” adding that the day represents the victory of constitutional governance and democratic values. The Governor emphasized the larger national context, stating that this year’s Republic Day is especially significant as India celebrates the 150th anniversary of the timeless national song “Vande Mataram” and advances the goal of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
Governor K.T. Parnaik said the theme reflects India’s civilisational strength, collective confidence and the government’s commitment to building a self-reliant, inclusive and prosperous nation. He described the Constitution as a living document and moral guide upholding justice, liberty, equality and fraternity, paying tribute to its framers and freedom fighters. The Governor expressed gratitude to the Armed Forces, CAPFs and State Police for safeguarding national security, and highlighted Arunachal Pradesh’s strategic importance, cultural richness and strong alignment with constitutional values. He praised the people of the state for their unity, resilience and patriotism. Later, Chief Secretary Manish Gupta announced that Gold and Silver Medals would be awarded during Statehood Day celebrations on February 20 to honour exemplary service and contributions.
