Compassionate recruitment results for 35 police posts put on hold: Arunachal Home Minister

The final results of recruitment for 35 posts in the Arunachal Pradesh Police under the compassionate appointment scheme have been kept on hold following directions from the Gauhati High Court, Home Minister Mama Natung informed the Assembly.Replying to a question raised by Independent MLA Laisam Simai during the Question Hour, Natung said the recruitment process had already been completed but the results could not be declared due to an order issued by the Itanagar permanent bench of the Gauhati High Court. The minister explained that the recruitment was carried out as per the rules mentioned in the government office memorandum issued in 2022. The state government has reserved five percent of the total posts in the police department for compassionate appointments.

Natung said that candidates seeking jobs under the compassionate appointment scheme must go through certain basic qualifying procedures before they are selected. These include a physical efficiency test (PET), medical examination, verification of documents and a written test, depending on the post applied for.He informed the House that some candidates who could not clear these tests later challenged the recruitment process in court. Following this, the court directed that the declaration of the final results be kept in abeyance until further orders.

The compassionate appointment scheme is meant to provide immediate financial support to the family of a government employee who dies while in service or is medically retired due to serious illness or disability. As per the guidelines issued by the Centre through the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), such appointments can be made only against regular vacancies and within a limit of five percent of posts meant for direct recruitment, usually in Group C or equivalent categories.
