A strong hailstorm hit Banderdewa in Arunachal Pradesh damaging houses and affecting normal life in the area. Officials said the storm caused damage to more than 20 houses and also affected basic infrastructure.The hailstorm was accompanied by strong winds, which uprooted trees and electric poles in several places. This led to temporary road blockages and disruption in daily activities. Movement of vehicles was affected for some time as fallen trees blocked key roads.
Banderdewa Circle Officer Taba Milka visited the affected areas to take stock of the situation. The inspection covered Pichola, Tani Hapa and Gorubanda panchayat areas, where most of the damage was reported. Officials said that by early morning, roads were cleared and traffic movement was restored.Power supply in several parts of the area has been affected due to the storm. Authorities said electricity may remain disrupted for the next two to three days as repair work is ongoing.To assess the damage and provide relief, a team has been formed at the local level. The team includes the panchayat inspector, gram panchayat chairperson and village heads. They have been asked to identify all affected families and submit a detailed report within two days so that further steps can be taken.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather warning for the state. It has predicted thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places on March 26. On March 27 and 28, heavy rainfall with strong winds of 30 to 40 km per hour is likely. Similar weather conditions may continue in some areas on March 29.
