Public Hearing on Proposed Hydroelectric Project Held at Daporijo

The Environmental Public Hearing for the Subansiri Upper Hydroelectric Project (1605 MW) took place in Daporijo, organized by the Arunachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board, as part of the process for obtaining Environmental Clearance. Key attendees included local political figures such as Commerce and Industry Minister Nyato Dukam, MLA Taniya Soki, and Rolen Dagam, Chairman of the Liaisoning Committee, along with officials from NHPC, district administration, and local Panchayati Raj Institutions. Minister Dukam expressed optimism about the project’s transformative potential for affected families and appealed for stakeholder cooperation to ensure successful execution. He promised that the Liaisoning Committee’s report would be presented to the State Government for considerations that prioritize community interests.

During the hearing, stakeholders were given the opportunity to voice their opinions, concerns, and suggestions, ensuring transparency and public participation in accordance with environmental standards. Significantly, a vast majority of participants, including those directly affected, voiced their support for the project. Deepak Ratan Sagar, Group General Manager of Subansiri Upper HEP, reaffirmed the authorities’ dedication to maximizing benefits for local communities, forecasting local employment growth, market opportunities, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, and increased state revenue upon project completion. This public hearing is a pivotal milestone in the project’s environmental appraisal process.
