Green Light for Growth: Public Hearing for 680 MW Athunli HEP Successfully Concluded

In a major step toward boosting India’s renewable energy capacity, the public hearing for the proposed 680-megawatt Athunli Hydroelectric Project was successfully conducted in the Dibang Valley district on April 1st. This hearing is a critical statutory requirement for the project to secure environmental clearance from the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change. Chaired by Dibang Valley Deputy Commissioner Bekir Nyorak and organized by the Arunachal Pradesh Pollution Control Board, the event saw a massive turnout of local residents, stakeholders, and project-affected families. During the session, project consultants provided a comprehensive overview of the Environmental Impact Assessment and the Environmental Management Plan. The presentation highlighted a balanced development strategy, focusing on how the project will integrate rigorous environmental safeguards with long-term socioeconomic benefits. The 680 MW initiative is designed to generate clean, renewable energy while fostering local economic growth. In a heartening development, the project-affected families expressed strong and positive support for the initiative.
