IMC Sets 10-Day Deadline to Revise ‘Inappropriate’ Restaurant Names

The Itanagar Municipal Corporation has directed all hotels and restaurants in the city to remove references to specific animal meats from their trade licence names and signboards, asking establishments to follow what it described as more appropriate and uniform naming practices. In an official order, IMC Joint Commissioner Datum Gadi said that several establishments were using names that directly mention meats such as pork, chicken, beef and mutton. The civic body said such names were “inappropriate” and not in line with public decency and prevailing sensitivities.

The order has been issued under provisions of the Arunachal Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act, 2019.
