Upgraded Sessa Hydel Project Launched to Strengthen Arunachal’s Energy Sector

On Wednesday, the Deputy Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh inaugurated the renovation and modernization of the Sessa Mini Hydel Station (3×500 kW) located in the West Kameng district, alongside MLA Tenzing Nyima Glow from Thrizino-Buragaon. Originally commissioned in 1992, the hydel station had been non-operational for several years due to outdated infrastructure. Now, the facility has been successfully revived with modern electromechanical systems and upgraded civil works.

The plant, enhanced with a total installed capacity of 3×500 kW and improved 33 kV grid connectivity, will provide reliable and efficient power to over 1,500 households in Sessa, Tippi, Bhalukpong, and surrounding villages. Key modernizations include upgraded transmission systems, improved voltage stability, and a reduction in transmission losses, all contributing to a higher quality of power supply as well as simplified operation and maintenance processes.

The revitalized hydel station is projected to generate approximately 6.1 million units of energy annually, which will play a vital role in enhancing the region’s energy security and promoting sustainable development. The Deputy Chief Minister emphasized that this initiative demonstrates the government’s ongoing commitment to bolstering hydro power infrastructure and enhancing the living standards of residents in remote and border areas of Arunachal Pradesh.
