Google has officially unveiled the Fitbit Air, a minimalistic health tracker without a screen for people who want to track their health around the clock without the bells and whistles of a smartwatch. It’s the company’s lightest and smallest wearable to date, weighing 12 grams with its band and priced at $99.99. Google has tuned the Fitbit Air for “invisible” wear, removing the display and directly competing it with other premium screenless trackers such as Whoop. The tracker has a “pebble” design that’s removable and can be swapped into different accessories, like a Stephen Curry Special Edition band. It depends only on the newly rebranded Google Health app for data visualization and AI-powered feedback.
The tiny Fitbit Air boasts premium sensors including continuous heart rate monitoring, SpO2, variation in skin temperature and AFib heart rhythm alerts. It’s especially focused on sleep health with detailed sleep stage analysis and a “Smart Wake” haptic alarm. It has no power-hungry screen, meaning the device can last an impressive week on a single charge. It can be quick-charged to give a full day’s power in just five minutes. The wearable also integrates seamlessly with the Gemini-powered Google Health Coach, which analyzes user data to offer tailored workout plans and recovery tips. It even lets users log gym sessions by just snapping a photo of their equipment.
The Fitbit Air is available to pre-order now, and will be on shelves May 26, 2026. It marks a strategic shift for Google, towards a software-led wellness. With every purchase you’ll also get a three month trial of Google Health Premium which unlocks the full power of the AI coach. If you already have a Pixel Watch, the Fitbit Air can “swap” with your Pixel Watch to wear your watch during the day, and the lightweight Air at night for maximum comfort, without having to sacrifice the continuity of your data. This release is Google’s attempt to crack the growing “wellness-curious” market and provide a less conspicuous and more affordable option to the increasingly complicated smartwatch market.
