Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Thursday assured a visiting students’ delegation that the State government would discuss the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Manipur in the ensuing Assembly session that begins on September 2.
The Chief Minister also informed the students that the government supports the implementation of NRC in the State.
He said the conduct of NRC updation and error free implementation of NRC are two issues that need to be addressed.
Notably, a delegation of students representing 10 schools and colleges met the Chief Minister demanding the implementation of NRC before Census at Chief Minister’s Secretariat, Imphal on Thursday.
They demanded that the Chief Minister pressurise the Centre for implementation of NRC in Manipur before the Census.
The students also demanded the Chief Minister to detect the illegal immigrants through NRC before conducting the Census.
The meeting was attended by Commissioner of Education, Ningthoujam Geoffrey and Director Education (S), Ng. Bhogendra Meitei.

Higher Secondary School, Ibotonsana Girl’s Higher Secondary School, Ram Lal Paul School, Model Higher Secondary School and Ananda Singh Higher Secondary School.
