Kongkurayo Mirbuk Fest 2.0 was celebrated at Mirbuk Musup with the aim of preserving and promoting the rich traditions and identity of the Adi community under the theme, “My Roots, My Identity,” at Tigra Mirbuk musup (community hall) in Pasighat in East Siang district on Tuesday.
The programme began with “Taku Tabat,” an indigenous sacred ritual performed for blessings and well-being.
The event was attended by chief guest Oting Siram and guest of honour Oso Darang. Elderly women of Tigra Mirbuk were also felicitated for being the pillars of society and guardians of traditional knowledge.
Organising chairperson Jaya Tasung Moyong spoke about the importance of preserving Adi identity, supporting local artisans, and honouring ancestors. She encouraged the younger generation to continue reviving traditional values and practices.
Chief guest Oting Siram thanked the organisers for holding such a meaningful festival and appreciated the younger generation for respecting and involving senior members of the community.
Advisor Rumi Tasung thanked all participants and stated that taking part in traditional games and cultural activities helps keep old traditions alive. She also prayed for everyone’s good health and well-being.
The judges were felicitated with “Geri,” a traditional gourd bottle, while winners of different competitions were awarded local handicrafts made by village artisans. Snacks served during the programme were also prepared using locally produced crops.
The festival featured several traditional competition activities for men, women and general participants including Oying Pe Jung, Dore Poki, Rémi Iki, Tug of War, Sipiak Mokí, Binyat Lêngkí, Ledu Petkeng and Adi Agom Luki.
A special performance by the band “Kongkura:yo – Echoes of the Ancestors” added colour to the celebration.
The event brought together elders, youth and villagers in a collective effort to celebrate and preserve Adi heritage and traditions.
