Tawang Deputy Commissioner Namgyal Angmo has highlighted the crucial role of primary teachers in shaping children’s foundational learning and urged them to adopt more engaging and innovative teaching practices. Speaking at the inauguration of a three-day capacity-building programme for primary teachers in Tawang, Angmo encouraged teachers to move beyond traditional methods and nurture curiosity, critical thinking and reading habits among children from an early age. She also called for interactive training sessions where teachers can exchange innovative techniques and best practices from their schools. The DC urged the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) to consider a structured curriculum for pre-primary and Early Childhood Care and Education to strengthen children’s readiness for formal schooling. SCERT Assistant Director Mudang Omo said the training was developed in response to teachers’ feedback and is being conducted across the state to strengthen primary education. Tawang DDSE Hridar Phuntsok stressed the importance of continuous professional development, encouraging teachers to regularly update their knowledge and skills. Organised by SCERT with the Reach and Teach Foundation as its knowledge partner, the programme will focus on improving classroom practices, teaching methodologies and foundational education. The initiative aims to strengthen teachers’ professional competencies and improve learning outcomes for children across the district.
