6 people lost their lives in a horrific road accident on a national highway. 20 other passengers were injured in the tragic accident. The accident took place between a private passenger bus and a truck carrying iron pipes on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway at Dorakunta in Suryapet district of Telangana at around 5 am on Wednesday. According to police, five of the deceased are women.
The iron-pipe-laden truck lost control while trying to overtake another vehicle and hit the divider on the highway with great force. As a result, half of the truck got stuck on top of the divider and the rest remained in the middle of the road. Shortly after, the passenger bus heading from Hyderabad to Eluru in Andhra Pradesh lost control and rammed at high speed into the rear of the stationary truck.
Due to the accident, a large portion of the right side of the bus was completely crushed. Panic broke out among the more than 40 passengers on board and many passengers got trapped inside. Some passengers saved their lives by jumping out of the windows. Based on information from locals and eyewitnesses, police reached the spot and immediately rescued the injured and sent them to hospital. The accident caused severe traffic congestion on the national highway for some time.
