33-year-old Pinku Mani Talukdar from Guwahati has defied the odds after a horrific road accident, thanks to advanced trauma care at Amrita Hospital, Faridabad.
On January 20, Pinku was riding pillion with her husband when a speeding truck hit them, dragging her several metres and causing massive tissue loss and fractures. After initial treatment in Guwahati, she was airlifted to Delhi but turned away by multiple hospitals due to bed shortages and complexity. A nurse’s tip led her to Amrita Hospital, where Dr. Shikha Gupta and team began emergency surgery within hours. Over the next weeks, Pinku underwent 18 surgeries, avoiding amputation and regaining mobility.
Many in the region travel long distances for specialised care, often facing delays that can be life-threatening. Now back home, Pinku is walking again. “The doctors told me they would cure me — and they did,” she said. Her case stands as a testament to timely intervention, multi-disciplinary expertise, and medical dedication.
