Mechukha to host Asia’s only ARWS qualifier in 2026

The frontier town of Mechukha in Arunachal Pradesh is set to attract global attention with its selection as host for India and Asia’s only Adventure Racing World Series (ARWS) Qualifier in November 2026. The event will act as a gateway to the AR World Championship 2027 and is expected to bring elite international adventure racing teams to the Eastern Himalayas. Tourism Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona launched the event with representatives from Australia and partner organisations. Officials said the challenge will boost adventure tourism, eco‑tourism, and filmmaking opportunities while showcasing Mechukha’s rugged mountains, indigenous Monpa culture, and high‑altitude landscapes.

The announcement follows Mechukha’s recent success in hosting the 3rd Border National Adventure Racing Cycle Championship in April 2025, which drew 22 teams, including participants from Malaysia. Despite difficult terrain and ongoing road construction, over 90 athletes competed, reinforcing Mechukha’s growing reputation as an adventure sports hub.

Situated near the India‑China border, Mechukha is rapidly emerging as one of India’s leading destinations for high‑altitude endurance sports.
