In a groundbreaking moment for Arunachal Pradesh, four para technical officials from the state have earned the rare honour of being selected to officiate at the prestigious 2025 World Para Athletics Championships. This is the first time in the history of Arunachal’s sporting journey that local officials have been appointed to such a prominent global stage, marking a proud milestone for the northeastern state. The Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) officially confirmed the selection of Techi Sonu, Lemkhul Mossang, Bagang Tania Natam, and Tana Yahe, following their successful completion of the World Para Athletics Technical Official Seminar-cum-Examination held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi from May 2 to May 4, 2025.
These four officials are now internationally certified to officiate at the World Para Athletics Championships, which will be hosted in New Delhi from September 26 to October 5, 2025. Their certification and selection underscore their competence and dedication to the advancement of para sports in India. The development has been hailed as a landmark achievement for Arunachal Pradesh, where sporting infrastructure and recognition in the field of para athletics have traditionally lagged behind larger states. The inclusion of these officials not only elevates the state’s presence in the international sporting arena but also serves as an inspiration for aspiring para athletes and sports professionals from the region.
“This is not just a personal achievement for the selected officials, but a collective success for Arunachal. It reflects years of hard work and growing awareness around para sports in our state,” said a senior sports official from the Arunachal Pradesh Sports Department.
