Arunachal Forest Department ramps up wildlife checks at Midpu Khola ahead of New Year

In a bid to curb illegal poaching and wildlife meat trade, the Arunachal Pradesh Forest Department has intensified its monitoring efforts at Midpu Khola Camp. With New Year festivities drawing closer, the operation aims to protect the region’s rich biodiversity from exploitation.

Under the leadership of the Range Forest Officer (RFO), the department has deployed additional personnel to intercept illegal activities targeting endangered species. Recent inspections have already led to the seizure of several wildlife specimens, underscoring the persistent threats faced by the state’s fragile ecosystems. Speaking on the initiative, a senior official stated, “The festive season often sees a spike in illegal wildlife trade. Our intensified efforts are aimed at ensuring that such activities are swiftly identified and dealt with.”

The department is also engaging with local communities to build awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation. Workshops and outreach programs are being conducted to encourage community participation in preserving the ecological balance of the area.
