In a significant move to enhance the welfare of citizens traveling to the national capital, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu inaugurated the newly constructed Arunachal Niwas at Dheerpur, Delhi, on Sunday. This marks the fourth state-owned property in New Delhi, underscoring the government’s decade-long commitment to building robust support infrastructure for its people residing or visiting outside the state.
The impressive G+8 structure is spread across a 2,600-square-meter plot with a total built-up area of 7,198 square meters. Designed to cater to diverse needs, the facility features eight dormitories, 18 double-bedded rooms, and 35 twin-bedded rooms. Notably, the building includes six specially designed handicap-friendly rooms, a medical room, and a spacious dining hall. To ensure seamless operations, the Niwas also provides dedicated office spaces and ample parking across the basement and the first two floors.
During his address, Chief Minister Khandu highlighted the strategic importance of this facility, particularly for the student community and patients. Located near Delhi University’s North Campus, the Niwas is expected to serve as a vital resource for students during admission cycles. Furthermore, dedicated provisions for those seeking medical treatment in the capital provide a safe and affordable sanctuary for families during health crises.
CM Khandu reiterated that this project is part of a wider network of state properties already established in major hubs like Guwahati, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Bodh Gaya. Beyond external infrastructure, the Chief Minister announced an upcoming comprehensive review of infrastructure and manpower in newly created districts—including Pakke-Kessang, Kamle, and Shi-Yomi—to ensure balanced development within Arunachal Pradesh itself.
The ceremony was attended by a high-profile delegation, including Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, Rajya Sabha MP Nabam Rebia, and various state cabinet ministers and MLAs. The chief minister concluded by thanking the prime minister and the government of India for their continued support, noting that approximately ₹4,900 crore received under the 15th Finance Commission recommendations will be strictly utilized to bridge critical infrastructure gaps across the state.
