Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein has urged the tourism department to adopt a proactive stance on wildlife conservation and the promotion of geographical indication (GI) tagging for state products. This directive was issued during a review meeting held at the Civil Secretariat on Saturday.
The meeting aimed to assess the tourism department’s progress in promoting tourism within the state over the past few years. Key attendees included Tourism Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona, his adviser Mopi Mihu, the Deputy Chief Minister’s adviser, the finance commissioner, the planning secretary, the tourism director, the planning joint director, and other officials from the tourism department.
Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona emphasized the need for renewed determination to advance the department’s initiatives. He highlighted the importance of prioritizing areas for tourism development and cautioned against undertaking projects haphazardly. Sona called for a more strategic and focused approach to ensure effective and sustainable tourism development in the state.
Tourism Director Kesang Ngurup Damo delivered a comprehensive presentation covering various aspects of the department’s activities, including infrastructure and human resource development, planned events, and asset monetization. The presentation provided a clear overview of the department’s achievements and future plans.
Deputy Director of Tourism Gedo Eshi shared additional insights into the department’s initiatives, emphasizing the importance of these efforts in boosting the state’s tourism industry. The meeting underscored the necessity for coordinated efforts and strategic planning to maximize the potential of tourism as a key driver of economic growth and cultural preservation.
