MP Tai Tagak calls for faster relief as floods and landslides hit Arunachal

Rajya Sabha MP Tai Tagak has expressed concern over the widespread damage caused by flash floods and landslides in Arunachal Pradesh, urging authorities to speed up relief, rehabilitation and restoration efforts in the affected areas.The severe weather struck Yazali and surrounding regions on June 24, causing extensive damage to roads, public infrastructure and residential areas. The disaster also disrupted connectivity along several stretches of National Highway-13, particularly the Hoj–Yazali road corridor, making movement difficult for residents and emergency teams. One of the worst-hit locations was the NEEPCO settlement at Possa, where several families were displaced after floodwaters and landslides damaged homes and infrastructure. The affected families are currently facing significant hardship as rescue and relief operations continue.

Expressing solidarity with those affected, Tagak appreciated the efforts of the district administration, police, disaster management agencies and local leaders for responding quickly to the emergency. He said their coordinated efforts had helped provide immediate assistance to people stranded in flood-affected areas.The Rajya Sabha MP urged the authorities to maintain close monitoring of vulnerable locations and ensure that relief materials and essential services reach every affected family without delay. He also appealed to residents living along the Panyor River to remain alert and take all necessary precautions as heavy rainfall continues to pose a threat of further flooding and landslides. Tagak advised people to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly on the Hoj–Potin road, until the authorities officially declare the route safe for public movement. He stressed that public safety should remain the top priority while restoration work is underway.

Expressing grief over the death of Nirmala Gupta, a teacher at Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya (VKV), NEEPCO, who lost her life during the disaster, the MP extended his condolences to her family. He also called for intensified search operations to trace those who remain missing following the flash floods. Highlighting the need for a sustained response, Tagak urged the administration to accelerate relief distribution, rehabilitation of displaced families and restoration of damaged infrastructure. He also appealed to people across Arunachal Pradesh to remain vigilant, follow official weather advisories and cooperate with the authorities as heavy rainfall and the risk of landslides continue in several parts of the state.
