PoSH Act awareness campaign held in Tawang

The IIM building in Tawang hosted a one-day awareness workshop for Internal Complaint Committee Heads and Presiding Officers established under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013 (PoSH Act). The workshop’s objectives were to inform participants about the laws protecting women and children and to make them aware of the growing number of crimes against women and children in the area.

Dondup Pema, CDPO Tawang, gave a welcome speech to kick off the event, stressing the need and urgency of these programs in the current environment. Several specialists, including Inspector N. Angu, Officer-in-Charge, Tawang Police Station, who gave a thorough rundown of new criminal laws, participated in the program’s presentations and interactive sessions. Tawang voiced concerns about the district’s escalating rates of crime against women and children to Norbu Drema, the chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).

The Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act of 2015 was discussed by Juvenile Justice Board member Advocate Tsering Tsomu. Thinlay Norbu, an advocate, discussed the Child Marriage Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. Advocates Rinchen Wangmo and Sonam Zangmo, among other resource persons, spoke to the participants and emphasized the legal measures protecting women from harassment at work and domestic abuse.
