In coordination with police from Arunachal Pradesh, officers from Assam arrested Debojit Sharma aged 33 at Pithaguri in Mazgaon (Assam’s North Lakhimpur District after he had been on the run for over one year following surveillance) with multiple fraud charges for duping people of money after paying him large amounts of money to facilitate pharmacy and other business licenses in Naharlagun and Doimukh; he has been evading arrest since 2023 due to changing locations and telephone numbers.
His arrest was part of an ongoing investigation by officers from the Naharlagun Police Station (Case No. 106/25) under Article 218.3 of the Indian Penal Code. Debojit Sharma was arrested after committing his crimes. Officers led by Sub-Inspector N. Rama conducted the operation. Mr Debojit Sharma has appeared before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) of Naharlagum and was remanded into custody.
