Traffic movement on the Dirang-Tawang road in Arunachal Pradesh was disrupted after a landslide blocked the highway a few kilometres beyond Dirang, leaving vehicles stranded on both sides.
Tawang is strategically important for India as it is located along the India-China border and close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
Passengers and drivers claim to have been stranded at the location for several hours since around 2am. The prolonged blockage resulted in long queues of vehicles travelling from Tawang towards Dirang as well as from Dirang towards Tawang.
Tourists, passengers, bus drivers and local commuters are facing considerable inconvenience due to the prolonged disruption.
Many travellers said they have been waiting for several hours and appealed to the concerned authorities to immediately deploy machinery and manpower to clear the landslide debris and restore traffic movement.
The road is particularly important as it provides connectivity to Tawang district, a strategically significant border district of India located close to the international boundary with China.
