Assam-Arunachal Border Dispute Resolution Process Moving in Right Direction: Atul Bora

Assam Minister for Rural Development and Panchayatiraj Atul Bora has said that the regional committee constituted to resolve the long-pending Assam-Arunachal Pradesh boundary disputes is progressing in the right direction and receiving positive responses from people living along the border areas.

Bora made the statement during his visit to Assam’s Dhemaji district on Tuesday, where he held a meeting with Heads of Departments (HoDs), Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) representatives and officials of the Disaster Management Department.

The minister said Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been making strong efforts to resolve the boundary disputes between the two neighbouring states through mutual understanding and dialogue.

“The Chief Minister is maintaining regular communication with his Arunachal Pradesh counterpart and closely monitoring the activities of the regional committee,” Bora said.

He appealed to residents of both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh to extend their cooperation to the committee for a peaceful and permanent solution to the disputes.

Bora said that disputes in several major stretches of the interstate boundary have already been resolved, while the remaining areas are being examined by the regional committee comprising elected representatives and administrative officials from both states.

During his day-long visit, the minister also reviewed Dhemaji district’s preparedness for the upcoming monsoon season. He directed officials to maintain regular surveillance in flood-prone areas and take necessary steps to minimise the hardships faced by people during floods.
