The All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) has urged the Centre to shift the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways’ regional office from Tezpur, Assam, back to Itanagar, warning that continued delay could lead to a peaceful democratic movement. In representations to Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Kiren Rijiju, as well as BJP national president Nitin Nabin, the union said the office’s location outside Arunachal Pradesh was creating administrative difficulties and affecting coordination and monitoring of major road projects. ANSU president Ashok Doka stressed that Arunachal Pradesh, as a strategically important frontier state, requires accessible institutions to effectively supervise projects such as the Frontier Highway. The union said relocating the office to Itanagar would improve coordination with the state government, district administrations, executing agencies and local stakeholders, while enabling quicker resolution of field-level issues. It has also sought adequate manpower, technical officers and infrastructure for the office. The Arunachal Pradesh government has backed the demand, with the Public Works Department urging the MoRTH Secretary to consider the proposal in view of administrative requirements and public convenience. ANSU also alleged that vested interests could be attempting to influence the office’s functioning, though such claims require verification. The union expressed hope that the Centre would act promptly and restore the regional office to Itanagar.
