School Children Take Out-Of-The-Box Route To A Clean, Plastic-Free Tawang

Small hands are making a big change in remote Kyidphel in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang district.
Every day on their way to school, the students of Government Secondary School at Kyidphel are doing something extraordinary—they are picking up plastic waste, wrappers and litter from footpaths, alleys and drains instead of walking past them.
Under the dedicated leadership of Headmaster Sangey Wangchu, the students have transformed waste collection into a habit of responsible citizenship.
The collected waste is brought to the school, where students carefully segregate dry and wet waste, wash recyclable plastics, and prepare them for transportation.
Their efforts are already making a tangible impact. Two pickup truckloads of segregated plastic waste have been sent to Jhamtse Gatsal, Lungla for recycling and further processing.
The students are earning special appreciation from one and all for proving that age is no barrier to environmental stewardship.
These young eco-warriors are not only keeping their surroundings clean but also inspiring the entire community to take responsibility for the waste they generate.
A cleaner Tawang begins with small actions. And these children are going beyond the cleanliness messages and speaking louder with their actions.
