The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released the findings of its latest Independent Drive Test (IDT), conducted across key cities and highways in the North East Licensed Service Area. Covering Itanagar, Naharlagun, the Itanagar–Bumla Pass (Tawang) NH-13 corridor in Arunachal Pradesh, and Dimapur and Kohima in Nagaland, the test captured mobile network performance across 2G to 5G technologies from June 2 to 23, 2025.
The assessment covered 270.3 km of city roads, 526.6 km of highways, 28 hotspot zones, and one km of walk testing. Among telcos, Airtel and RJIL showed high Call Setup Success Rates at 90.11% and 89.73% respectively, while BSNL lagged at 49.45%. Drop Call Rates varied, with Airtel at 1.23% and BSNL at 6.41%. 5G services peaked with download speeds of 299.92 Mbps and uploads at 44.38 Mbps in hotspots.
In Itanagar, areas such as Daily Market, Doni Colony, Doimukh, and Tarajuli are witnessing rising digital dependence among businesses and consumers. Improved network performance is expected to enhance mobile banking, e-commerce, and education services, creating momentum for digital growth in the local economy.
