On December 15, Arunachal Pradesh will hold its 12th panchayat elections and third municipal elections for Itanagar and Pasighat, with vote counting slated for December 20. The State Election Commission (SEC) announced that 63 candidates were elected unopposed, leading to 440 candidates competing for 186 zila parishad seats, 39 for 16 Itanagar Municipal Council (IMC) wards, and 21 for eight Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC) wards. A total of 600 nominations were submitted for 245 zila parishad constituencies, alongside 10,550 for 8,182 gaon panchayat seats, 101 for 20 IMC wards, and 28 for eight PMC wards by the November 24 deadline, with scrutiny completed by November 26.
The ruling BJP secured 58 zila parishad constituencies and four candidates were elected unopposed to the IMC. Notably, no nominations were received from 13 gaon panchayat constituencies, and 14 nominations were rejected. Elections were cancelled in the Dumba Singpho GP constituency due to a candidate’s death. A total of 8,31,648 voters are eligible to vote across various polling stations, with Electronic Voting Machines used for municipal polls and ballot boxes for panchayat elections.
