In a significant milestone for mathematics education in the frontier state, seven students from Arunachal Pradesh have successfully participated in the prestigious Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) 2026. This achievement highlights the growing academic competitiveness of the region and underscores a successful collaborative effort between educators, parents, and administrators.
According to an official release by Dr. Gete Umbrey, the regional coordinator of the Mathematical Olympiad Program for Arunachal Pradesh, the contingent featured a strong representation from across different grade levels.
Joining them was Hemant Chaudhary, a Class 9 student from Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, further diversifying the state’s representation at the national level.
Dr. Umbrey expressed his sincere appreciation to the school authorities, teachers, and parents for their unwavering dedication to nurturing these young minds. He specifically highlighted the role of the “Mataji” and the administration at the Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Girls’ School, Khonsa, for providing a supportive environment that allows mathematical talent to flourish.
The participation of these seven students is viewed as more than just a competition entry; it is seen as a strategic step toward strengthening the mathematical Olympiad culture within Arunachal Pradesh. Dr. Umbrey noted that this achievement reflects a “shared vision” to bring fresh momentum to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education in the state.
As Arunachal Pradesh continues to invest in its youth, the success of these students serves as a beacon for others, proving that with disciplined preparation and institutional support, students from the remote corners of the Northeast can compete with the best in the country.
The results of the INMO 2026 are highly anticipated, as they determine the selection for the next stage of the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) training camp. Regardless of the outcome, these seven students have already set a new benchmark for academic excellence in the state.
