Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein reiterated the state government’s unwavering support for Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms aimed at fostering economic growth and simplifying compliance for taxpayers. Mein, who also holds the Finance portfolio, made these remarks at the 55th GST Council meeting held in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, on Saturday.“Arunachal Pradesh remains committed to supporting GST reforms that simplify processes, ensure fairness, and address the unique needs of our state. These efforts align with our vision to enhance ease of doing business and accelerate development,” Mein stated, according to an official communique.
The meeting, chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, focused on streamlining the GST framework to make it more inclusive and effective. Key discussions included proposed amendments to strengthen GST’s legal structure, simplify tax rate structures, and enhance the grievance redressal mechanism for better taxpayer support. Additional agenda items emphasized expanding exemptions in critical sectors like healthcare, life insurance, and public-interest research. The council also advanced procedural rules for GST Appellate Tribunals (GSTAT) to expedite dispute resolution and discussed ensuring timely and equitable settlements of Integrated GST (IGST) revenues to states, promoting fiscal stability.
Mein expressed strong support for the recommendations and updates presented during the meeting, including the adoption of minutes from the previous council session.
