The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) and three Tagin organisations have urged Arunachal Pradesh Governor K.T. Parnaik to take up with the Centre their concerns over alleged increased activities of China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), particularly in the Taksing and Gelemo areas of Upper Subansiri district.
A delegation of the AAPSU, Tagin Cultural Society, All Upper Subansiri District Students’ Union and All Tagin Youth Association met Governor Parnaik at Lok Bhavan and submitted a five-point memorandum seeking stronger security deployment, enhanced surveillance and improved connectivity in the frontier areas.
AAPSU president Meje Taku said the governor assured the delegation that the matter would be brought to the attention of senior authorities in the Defence and Home Ministries as well as the Prime Minister.
The concerns were raised following a four-day ground assessment conducted by the AAPSU in the Taksing and Limeking circles from August 13 to 16 under its ‘Taksing Chalo-Bharat Bachao’ initiative. The students’ body claimed that it received field-level information regarding alleged PLA movement and construction of roads and military infrastructure at several locations, including Miba Chu, Sera-2/Assa Phila, Sera-3/Srila Top and Sera-4/Ojumuda-RK Point.
It also raised concerns over alleged activities in the Gelemo sector, including areas around CP-V, CP-VI and CP-VII, besides Pokorla and Olo Nyodi. However, the AAPSU stressed that the information collected during its visit should be independently verified by competent security and administrative authorities.
The organisations said residents of frontier villages were facing difficulties in accessing traditional hunting, cattle-grazing and yak-grazing areas because of restrictions and reported PLA presence or movement.
In their memorandum, the organisations sought enhanced deployment of the Army and Indo-Tibetan Border Police, intensified patrolling, modern surveillance and communication systems, stronger intelligence sharing and additional security posts in vulnerable areas.
They also called for greater recruitment of Arunachal tribal youths into the Arunachal Scouts and expedited construction of strategic roads, including the Taliha-Taksing and Nacho-Taksing/Gelemo routes.
The AAPSU further sought a fresh ground-level assessment, correction of alleged discrepancies in digital mapping and diplomatic engagement with China through appropriate channels in the event of any verified incidents.
AAPSU general secretary Mato Bui said the organisation would intensify its efforts if adequate action was not taken, asserting that the emerging concerns along the frontier required urgent, coordinated and sustained attention.
Governor Parnaik, during the meeting, reiterated the commitment of the Government of India and the armed forces to safeguarding every inch of the country’s territory. He assured the delegation that the safety and wellbeing of every village and citizen of Arunachal Pradesh remained a priority.
“Security and development of the border areas are national priorities, and the people living in these frontier regions are the nation’s first line of strength and resilience,” Parnaik said.
The governor also urged student leaders to play a constructive role in nation-building and asked the AAPSU to strengthen awareness and community outreach against drug abuse, support efforts to prevent crimes against children under the POCSO Act and encourage students to complete their basic education.
He further encouraged Arunachal’s youth to acquire skills in emerging technologies, saying that with the right values, education and technological capabilities, they could contribute significantly to the development of the state and the vision of a Viksit Arunachal and Viksit Bharat.
