The 86th birth anniversary of the renowned novelist, journalist, and literary pioneer, late Lummer Dai, was observed with deep reverence and solemnity in the East Siang district on Monday. The commemorative event was organized by the Adi Agom Kébang (AAK) in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS) Pasighat unit and representatives from the Assam Sahitya Sabha. The gathering brought together literary enthusiasts, intellectuals, and civil society members to honor one of Northeast India’s most celebrated icons.
The atmosphere turned nostalgic as participants paid floral tributes and garlanded the bust of late Dai. Highlighting his cross-cultural impact, traditional and patriotic songs in both Adi and Assamese were played throughout the venue. Prominent attendees, including retired IAS officer Tagom Darang, retired DMO Dr. Kaling Dai, and noted writer Nini Pertin, joined hands with AAK leadership to reflect on Dai’s enduring impact on the region’s cultural landscape.
Speakers at the event emphasized Lummer Dai’s monumental role in bridging communities through literature. Writing predominantly in the Assamese language, Dai masterfully portrayed the rich cultural heritage, traditions, and social realities of Arunachal Pradesh and the wider Northeast. The congregation concluded with a collective reaffirmation to preserve, promote, and carry forward the rich literary and journalistic legacy he so passionately championed for future generations.
