Arunachal Pradesh Governor KT Parnaik has expressed concern over the challenges posed by porous stretches along the eastern border and stressed the need to strengthen border management and infrastructure in frontier areas of the state. The governor shared his concerns during a meeting with Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan in New Delhi on May 18. The discussion focused on the prevailing security situation along the international border and the level of preparedness in sensitive frontier regions of Arunachal Pradesh. Officials said Governor Parnaik briefed the Chief of Defence Staff about his recent visits to remote border areas in the state and shared his observations regarding ground-level challenges faced by local residents and security agencies operating in difficult terrain.
During the meeting, both sides discussed several national security-related issues with special focus on Arunachal Pradesh. The discussions included matters related to border security, infrastructure development, implementation of the Vibrant Village Programme (VVP), and ongoing goodwill projects in remote border regions. The governor highlighted the importance of improving connectivity and administrative reach in frontier villages located near the international border. He also underlined the need for continued coordination between civil administration and defence forces to ensure both security and development in strategically important regions. Governor Parnaik praised the role played by the armed forces in Arunachal Pradesh and said the close coordination between the military and the state government has contributed significantly to the welfare and development of border villages. “The strong civil-military partnership has significantly contributed to the development of frontier villages, ensuring that security and progress move forward together,” the governor said during the meeting.
He also appreciated the efforts of the 3 Corps and the 4 Corps in strengthening relations with local communities through outreach activities and welfare initiatives in remote areas. According to officials, the governor commended the armed forces for conducting regular interactions with villagers, organising community outreach programmes and implementing goodwill projects aimed at supporting people living in isolated border regions. The Vibrant Village Programme, which was also discussed during the meeting, is a central government initiative aimed at improving infrastructure, connectivity and livelihood opportunities in villages located along India’s border areas. Arunachal Pradesh, which shares a long international border with China, remains one of the key focus states under the programme.
