In a collective initiative to keep Tawang and its beautiful tourist destinations clean, green and plastic-free, a massive cleanliness drive was organised by Monpa Mimang Tsogpa (MMT) in collaboration with the District Administration, Tawang and Indian Army.
The drive covered a vast stretch from GriptsangTso , beyond NagulaPass, up to the Giant Buddha Statue above Circuit House, Tawang, with volunteers clearing plastic waste and garbage from tourist locations and roadsides.
More than 350 volunteers joined hands for a cleaner Tawang, including members of all four Market Welfare Committees, Tawang Police, students, personnel and officials from BRO , PWD, PHED, RWD and DC Office, Tawang.
Tawang MLA Namgey Tsering, Deputy Commissioner Tawang Namgyal Angmo along with officials and citizens took part in the clean drive.
Five truckloads of garbage were collected during the drive and transported to the Material Recovery Facility (MRF), Tawang, for proper management and disposal.
During the drive, the Tawang DC interacted with the Army and BRO officers at various locations and urged them to ensure that their respective surroundings remain clean and hygienic.
She emphasised conducting weekly cleanliness drives so that waste does not accumulate, particularly along important tourist routes.
She said Tawang’s pristine mountains, lakes and tourist destinations are a shared heritage and responsibility.
