Arunachal Pradesh Science and Technology Minister Dasanglu Pul has called for accelerating geothermal energy and critical mineral exploration in the state, stressing that its geological resources should be harnessed responsibly to strengthen sustainable development and energy security. Chairing a review meeting on geothermal exploration in Tawang and critical mineral exploration, Pul emphasised stronger coordination among scientific institutions, public sector undertakings and government agencies. She said Arunachal Pradesh has significant potential in geothermal energy and critical minerals and urged authorities to convert scientific exploration into practical applications that can benefit local communities and support long-term economic growth. The meeting reviewed geothermal resource assessment being conducted by the Centre for Earth Sciences and Himalayan Studies (CES&HS) in collaboration with Oil India Limited (OIL). Pul highlighted the potential of geothermal heat for direct applications as well as power generation. Geothermal drying technology demonstrated by CES&HS at Dirang was discussed as a potential model for wider use, particularly in agriculture and allied sectors. The meeting also reviewed exploration of the Phop graphite and vanadium block acquired by OIL under the fourth tranche of the Ministry of Mines’ auction process. Pul stressed the growing strategic and economic importance of critical minerals and called for scientific, technology-driven exploration. Officials also acknowledged CES&HS’s role in early-stage drone mapping and geological planning of the mineral block.
