The All Komkar Students’ Union (AKSU) organized a comprehensive drug awareness programme at Rasing Dere in Komkar village, Upper Siang district, aimed at sensitizing students, youth, and community members to the dangers of substance abuse. Spearheaded by AKSU’s women’s wing president Momang Boko and general secretary Ayang Moti Yao, the event emphasized collective responsibility to foster a healthy, drug-free society. Key speakers included Dr. Mity Jopir Apang, chairperson of the Sikiing Kojee Charitable Society, who called for sustained commitment from all stakeholders, and DIPRO Yalik Jerang, who highlighted the essential roles of parents, schools, and open dialogue in prevention, alongside broader social priorities like adolescent health, preventing early marriage, and advancing girls’ education. Resource person Mingat Mibang from the Pasighat-based Sober Society detailed the severe physical, psychological, and socioeconomic consequences of addiction, while local figures such as BBK general secretary Tatan Pada, BEO Taying Pangkak, PRI leaders, and GBs urged continued vigilance. The programme also provided a platform for individuals like Obang Yao, Omeng Jamoh, and HGB Jamoh to share personal accounts of how addiction impacts families and communities. The impactful gathering concluded with participants taking a formal pledge, led by Dr. Apang, to transform Komkar into a completely drug-free village.
